The 114th PA was recruited in the summer of '62 from Philadelphia and surrounding counties.  Its typical member was older and more highly skilled than the average Union soldier.  In addition to giving detailed descriptions of the unit's battlefield exploits, the author comments on the political maneuvers of both Collis and his men and probes the  motivations of the soldiers in their daily commitment to their cause.  352 pp.
